Pets are incredible, but they’re prone to accidents. Even dogs that have gone through tons of training may have a bad day, and there’s a good chance in their life that they’ll accidentally use the carpet as the restroom. Pet urine smells and can stain your carpets, but unfortunately, you’ll most likely have to deal with it eventually. Luckily, Colossal Carpet Care is an expert at all carpets, and we know exactly how to remove pet urine stains. The cleaning up of these stains on your carpet vary on whether the stain is new or old.
Newer Stains
If your pet has just had an accident, the first step is to clean it up. You’ll want to soak up as much of the urine from the carpet as you can. Use either paper towels or normal towels if comfortable sending them through your washing machine. Put the towels on the urine so they can soak up as much of it as possible. Rinse the area with cool water once you’ve gotten all that you can. Then, blot up the water with more paper towels. After blotting up the water, the towels may still smell like pee. That’s a good sign, as you’re getting as much urine out of the carpets as possible! The next step is to use either baking soda or vinegar to clean up the area. However, baking soda and vinegar aren’t always the most effective, and they can further damage your carpets.
Older Stains
It can be challenging to pull older stains out of older carpets, but it’s not impossible. The first thing to try is rinsing the area with water and using a wet-dry vacuum on the stain. Keep wetting and vacuuming the carpet until it looks clean. If you don’t have a wet-dry vacuum, you can try continuing to wet the carpet with warm water and then blotting it up with towels. Without any special tools at your disposal, that’s one of your best options. However, it isn’t the best way to remove urine stains.
