Keeping your carpet in good condition for as long as possible ensures your home will stay beautiful. That’s one of the reasons homeowners love carpet warranties. However, some warranties have strict guidelines you must adhere to. Otherwise, you’ll void your carpet warranty. There are different ways to void your carpet warranty depending on the specific warranty you may have. Make sure to find out what type of warranty you have for your carpets. With your warranty, you can keep gorgeous carpets for years to come.
Types of Carpet Warranty
While there are many types of carpet warranty, a few are pretty common. Each warranty has different ways to make them void, so make sure you know exactly what kind of warranty you have. Below are the carpet warranties that we find are the most common.
Wear Warranty
This is the most basic type of carpet warranty. It’s found on most carpets. A wear warranty ensures the carpet won’t wear down or fall apart unexpectedly. However, they don’t typically have any bearing on the performance of the carpet itself.
Stain Warranty
Stain warranties cover stains and how easily a stain will come out. While this may sound fool-proof, there are exceptions. Nearly all stain warranties have a list of exclusions not covered by the warranty. Things like herbal tea, mustard, and bleach are often not part of a stain warranty.
Texture Retention Warranty
Most carpet is twisted fibers, which creates the texture of the carpet. Over time these strands can untwist and result in a flat or fuzzy carpet. A texture retention warranty will cover this change in appearance due to the fiber’s untwisting.
Fade Resistance Warranty
The sun has a natural tendency to fade the colors of anything it hits often. Fade resistance warranties cover the carpet if the color changes drastically from the sun. While the warranty is nice, you may not want the sun directly lighting your carpet frequently.
What All Warranties Have in Common
All of these warranties have different conditions, but there is one thing they all share, one way to void nearly every carpet warranty on the market. And that condition is carpet cleaning. For almost every contract available, you must clean your carpet every 18 months. That’s 18 months at the latest! You also must use steam cleaning because other cleaning types can damage your carpet. No matter what carpet warranty you have, if you don’t steam clean the carpet at least every 18 months, you’ll void the warranty.
